WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN

On our final day in Brussels me and Luke padded around the local shops in the centre of town and when the sun went down indulged in burgers and Belgian beer!! So I will leave you with a few of my favourite photographs from the day and night.

I must admit this post has had a large delay on being uploaded, I've had a terribly busy first week back at University. However as you will see in my next post I did make a few naughty purchases including a pair of bright blue ankle boots! I also spent a few pennies on a book on how to make my own clothes titled DIY Couture....watch this space!

THE BELGIAN COMIC STRIP CENTRE

On our second day in Brussels Luke insisted we visited The Belgian Comic Strip Centre. Dubbed as the land of Smurfs and Tintin, I agreed with extreme excitement! We discovered a range of exhibitions, illustrated with original comic strip drawings alongside unique objects.

The Belgian Comic Strip Centre is also the former Waucquez Warehouse, a building created by Victor Horta in 1906 in the realm of Art Nouveau architecture. Luke fancies himself as a bit of an architecture enthusiast, and as he is an illustrator and has had a strong background of study within comic books, this was his dream day out!

So as we spent the day wandering through original art work by the likes of Marten Toonton and Posy Simmonds, I found myself lost in a world of the history of an art form that I had never taken the time to appreciate before. Seeing the drawings of the popular Tin Tin and Snowy brought back some like minded childhood memories for us both! It soon became clear when walking around the rest of the city as well as the museum that this favourable pair are somewhat of a national treasure in Belgium. The series of comic albums where created by artist Georges Remi in 1929 and have now been printed in over 50 languages and have sold over 200 million copies to date.

MY RUSSELLS IN BRUSSELS

So my first day in Brussels went a little like this...

Beginning with a little walk around the Cathedral we managed to get a few snaps inside and out. Whilst the weather was very windy the sunshine held out, and although a little chilly I still managed a whole half a day without tights and just my favourite bunny print skirt!!!!

The Cathedral itself is a Roman Catholic church named St. Michael and St.Gudula Cathedral, in French: Cathédrale Saints-Michel-et-Gudule and in Dutch: Sint-Michiels- en Sint-Goedelekathedraal. It is situated at the Treurenberg Hill in the heart of Brussles and is a true treasure to behold. I am not a practising Catholic or Methodist myself (I have been christened a methodist but most of my family are Catholic) however I have an adoring respect for Religion and the peace and reassurance it can bring people. Seeing such a beautiful building in the flesh; purpose built for the worship of a higher being, left me with somewhat of a benevolent feeling so I felt it apt to light a candle for my sadly missed Mother and Father.

After wandering the grounds and the streets and shops surrounding the Cathedral me and my boyfriend Luke had worked up a small appetite, so as the excellent tourists we are we stopped for a good old Belgian waffle....yum yum!!

HELLO WORLD

What an apt title as this is my first ever blog post within the whimsical world that is lifestyle and fashion blogging...and what an exciting week I have ahead of me!!

I have recently made a conscious decision to spend my hard earned pennies on travelling lots more, and to fund this I will; in the words of Lucy Spraggan: "stop drinking too much and socially smoking".

Therefore, with that in mind I will be boarding the plane to Brussels in approximately 4 hours and 50 minutes. The first of many trips around Europe!!

So for my first post I thought I might introduce you to a few of my holiday and airport musts.....

Firstly every girl needs an array of sunglasses, and these are just a few of my faves from my little collection. Passport and Euros, obviously an absolute must!! A cute hat and chelsea boots, just incase the weather doesn't run in my favour. Finally a big farewell to my little bunny and of course a suitcase....x
